Why AwAction?

In 2018, a conversation with a youth from our community triggered research about the issues new American children are facing. Many parents reported that they could not help their children in their educational and career path choices/decisions because they do not understand the educational and career development options well enough to provide a meaningful support. Most youths reported the absence of guidance from people who understand their cultural adaptation challenges, as they are often expected to integrate more than one culture with differing demands.

How Do We Implement Our Vision?

We create programs that inform and educate parents and children about financial literacy, cultural adaptation, and career paths exploration. One program that helps parents and children bridge the cultural gap and guide youths in their educational and career path decisions is our mentoring program: MentorNMotion (https://mentornmotion.org)

  • “1 in 3 young people will grow up without a mentor.

  • Young adults who were at-risk for falling off track but had a mentor are 55 % more likely to enroll in college;

  • 78% more likely to volunteer regularly;

  • 90% are interested in becoming a mentor;

  • 130% more likely to hold leadership positions.

  • Students who meet regularly with their mentors are 52% less likely than their peers to skip a day of school and 37% less likely to skip a class. (Public/Private Ventures Study of Big Brothers Big Sisters).
